Gambling in Ukraine was illegal between 2009 and 2020. Parliament outlawed gambling business in 2009 after a fire incident in a gambling hall that killed nine people in Dnipropetrovsk. After that Ukraine parliament passed the law on the prohibition of gambling businesses in Ukraine. The president of Ukraine at that time signed the law on June 25 to ban gambling. The law also applied to internet casinos. It did not apply to lotteries.
